Recent Reviews:
- 5 Stars - Winestate Magazine A classic Rapaura style, this ripely scented, richly flavoured wine was handled in
tanks and old oak vessels. Fragrant, with fresh, tropical fruit aromas, it is
mouthfilling, with strong, vibrant, passionfruit/lime flavours, lively acidity and a
dry, persistent finish Fine value. Australia, May/June 2017
- 4 ˝ Stars | Winestate Magazine This fragrant, weighty, estate-grown wine was hand-harvested at Rapaura, barrelfermented
and oak-aged for 15 months. Light lemon/green, it is still very youthful,
with generous, ripe, citrusy, peachy flavours, balanced acidity, biscuity notes adding
complexity and a lingering finish. Australia, May/June 2017
- 5 Stars | 94 Points, Wine Orbit A gorgeous barrel-fermented chardonnay, the inviting bouquet shows ripe stone
fruit, rockmelon, cedar and brioche characters with nuances of vanilla and nougat.
It is impressively weighted and rounded on the palate, and delivers waves of
delectable flavours, backed by juicy acidity. The wine offers fruit intensity as well as
stylish complexity. At its best: now to 2020. Sam Kim, NZ, January 2017
- 5 Star | 94 Points, Wine Orbit Complex, engaging and richly fruited, the bouquet shows baked pear, mandarin,
cashew and brioche aromas. It is full, weighty and velvety on the palate, and
delivers layers of ripe fruit flavours and texture, beautifully framed by seamlessly
integrated acidity. The finish is superbly long and gratifying. At its best: now to
2020. Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, NZ, March 2016
- 5 Star | Cameron Douglas Fine Class White Wines Review Complex, gentle and enticing bouquet of Viognier with aromas of crushed flowers,
white peach and white apricot, apple and quince; loaded with leesy spices and a
hint of tastiness. On the palate – creamy, rich in character with a plethora of
flavours and textures from gentle to firm; medium+ acidity, almost full-bodied, a
savoury moment and lengthy finish. A delicious example. Cameron Douglas, NZ Liquor News/FMCG Business July 2016
- 5 stars | 94 Points, Wine Orbit From their estate vineyard in the Rapaura district, this is superbly fruited and impressively complex on the nose displaying dark cherry, smoked meat, mixed spice and truffle characters. The palate is concentrated and beautifully rounded, and displays outstanding mid palate weight and silky texture, firmly structured by fine, chalky tannins. It is multi-layered and engaging, and promises to evolve graciously. At its best: 2017 to 2025. Sam Kim, NZ, October 2016
- 4 stars | Raymond Chan Wine Reviews Light ruby-red colour with some depth, lighter on the rim. This has a softly ethereal nose subtly detailed aromatics showing dark-red berry fruits entwined with red florals, and fresh and dark herbs. The nose builds to for a concentrated core, and notes of red liquorice and spices emerge with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate has fine features with bright and lively, aromatic red berry fruit lifted by red florals, subtle notes of herbs and spices with red liquorice elements. The mouthfeel shows fine tannin extraction and textures, balanced by refined acidity. The wine has linearity and elegance, and carries to a long, lingering finish of sweet and aromatic red fruits. This is an elegant, fine-featured, sweet-fruited Pinot Noir with red florals and subtle notes of herbs and liquorice. Match with poultry and pork over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 777, 114, 115 and 5, from 18 y.o. vines, fully destemmed and indigenous yeast fermentation initiated to 13.0% alc., with 30% whole berries, the wine aged 14 months in 25% new French oak barriques. Raymond Chan, NZ, October 2016
- 4 1/2 stars | 90 Points, Wine Orbit It is beautifully fragrant on the nose displaying dark cherry, clove, nutmeg and game characters, leading to a succulent palate that is rounded and silky. It is fruit expressive and immediately likable, nicely enhanced by velvety mouthfeel and fine tannins. The wine is flavoursome and friendly, yet has serious side of proper structure and excellent length. At its best: now to 2019. Sam Kim, October 2016
- 4 1/2 stars | 91 Points, Wine Orbit Juicy and vibrant, this is instantly appealing with passionfruit, feijoa, nectarine and herbaceous flavours, wonderfully supported by vibrant mouthfeel and fine texture. The wine is immediate and tasty, and offers fabulous drinking. At its best: now to 2019. Sam Kim, October 2016
- 5-star rating Wine Orbit, "This is racy and taut yet richly flavoured and impressively complex, showing lemon curd, floral and potpourri characters with a hint of toasty notes. The palate is concentrated, focused and finely textured, and finished superbly long and mouth-watering. Wonderfully expressive and engaging. At its best: now to 2020."
- 91 point Bob Campbell Master of Wine, "An unusual Riesling showing quite a bit of bottle development with toast and some savoury, kerosene-like characters. Part of that character may be the result of fermentation and maturation in old French puncheons. There are also lime and pineapple flavours. Riesling with character and complexity - good food wine."
- 4-star rating Raymond Chan reviews, "Fruit from 6 rows, from vines planted in 2005, hand-picked, WBP and cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.3% alc. and 3.4 g/L RS, TA 8.4 g/L and pH 3.06, the wine aged 7 months in seasoned oak. Bright straw-yellow with lemon-gold hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is elegantly concentrated with deep, complex, secondary aromas of lime fruit melded with layers of toast, honey and cream, the nose with fresh floral nuances providing detail and lift. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, bright, rich, lusciously juicy fruit flavours of citrus fruits, honey and toast are bolstered by a firm, grainy phenolic line and crisp, mouthwatering acidity. The flavours are complex and juxtapose sweetness with savouriness. Some creaminess balances the textural robustness and the wine flows to a dry, firm and brisk finish. This is a complex, fine, but firmly textured, dry Riesling with flavours of limes, honey, toast and cream. Serve as an aperitif, with rich seafood and poultry dishes over the next 4+ years."
